The narrative of Ceramica Cielo’s new Itaca collection by Luca Cimarra starts with the idea of an island, a concept that the designer has managed to skilfully transpose into bathroom elements. A land surrounded by water, a world in itself concluded yet open, circumscribed yet complete, the island in this case also becomes a metaphor for an increasingly intimate domestic space. Itaca, a symbol of homecoming and reconnection to one’s roots, therefore inspires a family of sculptural ceramic elements of great aesthetic impact, which find their maximum expression in the freestanding washbasin with a cylindrical shape that can be combined with customisable wooden storage units, with an essential and functional design while maintaining a small footprint. The collection’s washbasins and sanitary ware, with their simple and primordial forms, stand out from the walls but at the same time integrate harmoniously into the surrounding architecture exploiting the rich chromatic range of glossy and matt glazes from the Terre di Cielo and Acque di Cielo colour palettes. An element with a great metaphorical sense but also purely material and natural: the island is also land, the same from which ceramics originate. And in fact, the design narrative aims precisely at highlighting the material, making it the absolute protagonist. The collection is completed with an oval washbasin, which can be used both in the countertop and the freestanding versions when placed on its column and a pair of sanitaryware, available in both the floor-standing and suspended versions. The latter recently won the Archiproducts Design Award 2024 in the “bathroom” category, testimony to Itaca’s design excellence and attention to detail. With this proposal, Ceramica Cielo confirms its mastery in moulding ceramic material, creating elements with a strong aesthetic component and always in line with the most current trends in the bathroom furnishing sector.
